4 aplinists from two Italian and Korean teams have been stranded due to bad weather since Saturday on the French side of the Mont Blanc massif (White Mountain).

As the hours pass, the chance of finding them alive decreases more and more. All efforts by both the French and the Italian side to reach the stranded have been without result.

Two Italian climbers, both in their forties, are trapped below the summit of the White Mountain, almost 4,800 meters above sea level, along the French normal Gouter route.

It was the climbers themselves who asked for help on Sunday, around 18:00, reporting that they could not continue and that one of them started to feel the first symptoms of hypothermia.

This morning, around 07:00, there was a new attempt by rescue teams to reach the missing. Unfortunately, even this attempt was not successful due to unfavorable weather conditions and to guarantee the safety of the rescuers.

Rescue teams will intervene as soon as weather conditions permit. The Italian authorities are in constant contact with the families of the Italian climbers trapped on the White Mountain.

Rescue operations were coordinated by the French authorities, who immediately tried to reach them by helicopter. But it was not possible due to strong winds and poor visibility.
