Anti-drug operation in Ecuador and Spain/ 13 arrested, including Albanians

A new anti-drug operation carried out in Guayas and Pichincha, Ecuador, led to the arrest of 13 people in simultaneous raids, including Albanian citizens. The operation was led by the Fiscalía General del Estado and the National Police of Ecuador, as part of Operation Gran Fénix 23.

Investigations launched in 2024 revealed that a transnational criminal organization, suspected of being linked to "Los Chonekillers", was sending drugs to Spain disguised as legal exports. The illegal cargo consisted of cocaine hidden in air containers.

Authorities confirmed the participation of Ecuadorian public officials, who facilitated the departure of shipments from Ecuador. In Spanish territory, the Albanians identified are responsible for the collection and logistics of drug trafficking. This connection demonstrates the international scope of drug trafficking, which includes well-structured networks.

During the raids, the following were seized:

165 kilograms of cocaine

14 mobile phones

2 personal computers

In addition, 13 people were detained, 4 of whom had criminal records. In Spain, 4 foreign nationals were arrested, suspected of being responsible for the logistical part of the criminal network. Operation Gran Fénix 23 was achieved thanks to bilateral cooperation between the Ecuadorian Police and the Spanish Police. /CNA
