Fires in Greece/ Battle with 109 fires throughout the territory

Firefighters in Greece are battling 109 fires across the country, while in the last 24 hours alone, 48 new agro-forestry fires have broken out, of which 38 were extinguished immediately.

Authorities continued the preventive evacuation of Karamandanios Children's Hospital at noon on Wednesday, as the fire front that has been raging for the second day in Akai was dangerously approaching the city of Patras.

By order of the emergency number, patients and companions were evacuated by EKAB ambulances and hospital vehicles, with the process being completed in a short time and without endangering the children's health.

The decision was made due to increasing wind intensity and uncertainty regarding the direction of the fire, which has already caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure, while continuing to threaten residential areas./CNA
