Parliamentary elections are taking place in Slovenia this Sunday. The race has brought a confrontation between two political visions, that of Robert Golob, a liberal politician, and Janez Jansa, a right-wing populist.
Robert Golob, from the liberal camp, is the current Prime Minister of Slovenia. He advocates pro-European Union, social and environmental policies. Golob has also followed a more progressive line in foreign policy.
Janez Jansa, from the right-wing populist camp, is the country's former prime minister and opposition leader, known for nationalist rhetoric, ties to leaders like Viktor Orban, and a political style compared to that of US President Donald Trump.
These elections are of great interest as no party is expected to win a majority. The parliament has 90 seats, so coalitions are crucial. The result could affect the political direction of the country, but also Slovenia's role in the EU and NATO. /CNA
