Pope Leo on the war in the Middle East: A scandal for humanity

Pope Leo said today that the pain, death and suffering caused by the war in the Middle East were a scandal for all humanity.

During the weekly Angelus prayer in St. Peter's Square, the head of the Roman Catholic Church said that we cannot remain silent in the face of the suffering of so many people.

"We cannot remain silent in the face of the suffering of so many people, the defenseless victims of these conflicts. What hurts them hurts all of humanity," the Pope said.

He expressed his deep concern about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and other regions ravaged by war and violence.

Pope Leo called on people to pray as much as possible so that hostilities cease and the way is finally opened for peace. We recall that over 2,000 people have been killed during the war that the US and Israel launched on February 28. /CNA
