G7 leaders: Ready to support global energy supply

The Foreign Ministers of the G7 countries have declared that they are ready to take the necessary measures to support global energy supplies.

In the statement, the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union High Representative said they condemn Iran's attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure across the region.

"We express support for our partners in the region in the face of unjustified attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies. We condemn in the strongest terms the regime's reckless attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, including energy infrastructure ," the statement said.

Iran has retaliated for US and Israeli attacks by targeting Persian Gulf countries, energy infrastructure and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, through which significant parts of the world's oil supplies flow.

The commitment follows a move by the International Energy Agency to release 400 million barrels of oil reserves to reduce supply shortages due to the war. /CNA
