Bank of Japan deputy governor says deal is "very big progress"

Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Shinichi Uchida spoke to the media.

He says the US trade deal is "very big progress" that reduces uncertainty over the economic outlook and that means the likelihood of Japan sustainably achieving the central bank's 2% inflation target has increased.

He had previously warned of "extremely high uncertainty" over trade, but suggested that interest rate hikes remained on track.

The bank will hold its next interest rate-setting meeting on July 30-31./ CNA
