Rare archaeological discovery in Ulpiana/ Second inscription dedicated to

A rare archaeological discovery has been made in the Ulpiana area in Kosovo.

It is learned that the team of archaeologists has identified a second inscription dedicated to Emperor Justinian and his wife, Theodora.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in Kosovo, Hajrulla Çeka, shared today the news and images from the excavations.

Through a post on social media, Çeku specifies that the first inscription mentioned the founding of the city of Iustiniana Secunda as a Dardanian city. The second one shows the construction of the episcopal basilica. These are the only known dedications of Justinian, the emperor with origins from this region.

"The preservation and protection of archaeological heritage has never been treated with this seriousness. Archaeological research in Ulpiana and Dresnik is now continuing on public property, which was expropriated last year. Intensive work is being done on archaeological sites, conservation and management plans, building professional capacities through international partnerships, studies and publications. Archaeology continues to reveal our history. We continue with dedication to its research and protection", - writes the Minister. /CNA
