Police and Prosecution: There are no wires connected to electricity in Lake

The Kosovo Police and the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica have announced that there are no wires connected to electricity in Lake Ujman, nor do they pose a danger to the lives of citizens, as was claimed days ago.

Through a press release issued to the media by the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica and the Kosovo Police, it was stated that the investigations have begun following statements by the president of the Kosovo Fishermen's Association, who claimed on July 30 that electrical wires submerged in water were observed in Lake Ujman, which, according to him, endanger people.

The police said they have also received a video related to this case, and have interviewed the person in question as a witness, who said that "during an action to remove illegal boats, he noticed wires in the water and that, if activated, they could pose a danger to citizens."

"The Kosovo Police appeals to citizens not to worry and not to feel afraid, as every suspicious case will be treated with maximum care and seriousness," the Police said in a press release, noting that police units constantly conduct patrols on Lake Ujman.

According to the statement, the Prosecution has assessed that there are no elements of any criminal offense.

Lake Ujman is located in Zubin Potok, one of four municipalities in northern Kosovo, inhabited by a Serb majority.

Earlier this week, the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) found the lifeless body of Rrahim Latifi, 33, in this lake, who is suspected of having jumped from a bridge into the water.

The KSF said that the operation was conducted in coordination with the Kosovo Police, the NATO mission in Kosovo (KFOR) and the Emergency Management Agency.

The body has been handed over to the authorities for further investigative procedures./ Rel
