Tsunami in several countries, from the US, to Russia and Japan

Waves are beginning to hit US shores, including Hawaii and California, after tsunami warnings were issued for countries across the Pacific when a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the remote east coast of Russia. The quake is the sixth-strongest ever recorded.

The waves have also hit Alaska, Russia and Japan.

The mayor of Honolulu told residents to move to higher ground, and the governor of Hawaii urged people to evacuate coastal areas immediately.

"It's not going to hit a beach, it's going to engulf the islands," said Gov. Josh Green. Authorities across the Pacific are ordering evacuations for affected areas./ CNA
