Shooting in New York / 4 reported dead

Shooting in Midtown Manhattan leaves 4 dead, including a police officer.

Police said the gunman entered the office building Monday evening with an assault rifle. He then took his own life.

The shooting, in the center of the most populous city in the US, has caused panic.

Police say the suspect, Shane Devon Tamura, 27, traveled from Las Vegas, but the motive is unclear.

Among those killed was New York City police officer Didarul Islam, who was working as a security guard. The other three victims have not yet been identified.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the suspect entered the building at 345 Park Avenue, which is home to businesses including the National Football League (NFL) and investment management company Blackstone, and immediately opened fire./ CNA
