Vu?i?: Explosives found near gas infrastructure on the border with Hungary

Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? said on Sunday that an explosive device "with great destructive power" had been found during an investigation into threats to gas infrastructure near the border with Hungary.

Vu?i? stressed that he informed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about this in a telephone conversation.

"I presented him with the first results of the investigation by our military and police authorities regarding the threat to the critical gas infrastructure connecting Serbia and Hungary," Vu?i? wrote on Instagram on Sunday.

Orban later revealed that he had been informed about this by Vu?i?.

The Hungarian prime minister, who is an ally of Vu?i?, said in a Facebook post that "Serbian authorities have found destructive explosives and the necessary equipment for activation in the critical gas infrastructure connecting Serbia and Hungary."

Vucic added that in addition to the explosive, the fuses for its activation were also found.

He then highlighted in Belgrade, during a visit to the construction site for the Expo exhibition, that not far from the Velebit settlement in northern Vojvodina, a few hundred meters from the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, two large packages of explosives with fuses were found in two backpacks.

"They could have endangered a large number of people and caused major damage to the gas supply of Serbia and Hungary," he said.

"We have data and an investigation is underway. I just finished talking to Viktor Orban. It is clear that geopolitical games will not leave us alone," Vu?i? said.

He added that Serbia's intelligence agencies "did a good job".

"We think we know which group the individuals who were supposed to take the final step in activating the explosives belong to. The goal was to send a political message. We will severely punish anyone we catch," Vu?i? said.

Hungarian portal Index reported that Orban has scheduled a Defense Council meeting for Sunday afternoon due to explosives found near a gas pipeline in Serbia.

Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) previously reported that police and the army were patrolling the area in northern Serbia in the municipality of Kanji?a, about fifteen kilometers from the border with Hungary.

According to RTS, the search was being conducted from the ground, with control and coordination from the air, and that helicopters were flying over the area. Drones, sniffer dogs, thermal imaging devices and other equipment, as well as counter-sabotage teams, were used.

RTS stated that the inspection was being carried out with the approval of the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Subotica.

The competent authorities have not yet published information about the actions of security forces in northern Serbia.

Kjo erdhi pasi Vuçiq njoftoi se objekti do të ruhej nga ushtria për arsye sigurie për shkak të situatës në Lindjen e Mesme./rel
