American study: An adult in the US spends about 5 years of his life in front of

According to a new analysis published in American media, the average adult in the United States may spend about 5 years of their life in front of screens.

Over a lifetime, this translates to five years and four months of notifications and browsing, a time that, according to the analysis, would be enough for 32 trips to the Moon and back.

On an annual basis, the total time spent on social media could be used to build 131,000 Great Pyramids of Giza.

The study, titled "Technical Self-Care - A Primer for Future Well-Being," captures the dual nature of technology. On the one hand, it is a major accelerator of progress and productivity, but on the other, its widespread use is associated with increasing risks to physical, mental and social health. Loneliness, anxiety, obesity, myopia and depression constitute a range of burdens with a total economic footprint of $7 trillion per year, or roughly 6% of global GDP. /CNA
