Ukraine is not afraid of a decline in Western aid for the war, the Ukrainian foreign minister said, dismissing the findings of a poll published in the US, which said there was a decline in public support and highlighted critical comments from some American conservatives.

As the Ukrainian counteroffensive continues to make slow progress, a CNN poll was released in early August that said more than half of Americans opposed additional US support for Ukraine, showing a drop in support.

"We are not feeling that there is a drop in support from the [American] Congress, from the European Parliament", said Dmytro Kuleba during a press conference in Paris, after the meeting with his French counterpart, Chatherine Colonna.

"We are seeing some people making statements in America and Europe that we should support Ukraine less. In the US, this is related to the start of the election cycle", he said, adding that "we will overcome this situation. We will find a solution."

During the first debate of the Republican candidates for the presidential election of 2024, some of the candidates criticized the policy of the President Joe Biden on the support of Ukraine and they suggested that they will abandon this policy.

The stance of former US President Donald Trump - widely regarded as the Republican front-runner - remains unclear, but he has claimed he could end Europe's biggest war since World War II within a day.

To avoid ambiguity, Ukraine's Western allies are seeking to create long-term plans to supply Ukraine with weapons and funds.

Kuleba rejected the idea that peace negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin would end the conflict, arguing that Putin is not a person who can be trusted.

Putin in February last year ordered the invasion of Ukraine. Since then, countries from all over the world have offered their support to Ukraine./ REL
