A senior US administration official told reporters that the agreement "is a sign from the world's leading democracies that we will not tire of defending Ukraine's freedom and that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will not defeat us."

Later, US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a 10-year security agreement, which they hailed as a milestone in relations between their countries.

Biden said that the goal is "to strengthen the defense and deterrence capacities of Ukraine."
