Eight people killed by Russian attacks in Ukrainian city

A Russian ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Krivi Rih killed at least eight people and injured at least 21 others, including children, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said.

He announced on Telegram, on June 12, the updated number of victims, after initially saying that six people had been killed.

He added that four other people are missing.

The attack damaged an administrative building and an apartment block, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Krivi Rih, a large city in the Dnipropetrovsk region that is the birthplace of President Volodymyr Zelensky, has been the target of airstrikes several times during the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began on February 24, 2022.

Zelensky responded by calling on Ukraine's allies to increase shipments of sophisticated air defense batteries to ward off Russian attacks. "Every day and every hour, Russian terror proves that Ukraine, together with its partners, must strengthen its air defense," Zelenskiy said.

He offered his condolences to the families and friends of the victims and said emergency services were working at the scene, as he released a video showing a man being pulled from the rubble.

In an earlier statement on Telegram, Zelensky said that Russia tried to launch a combined attack on Ukraine using missiles and drones.

He said five missiles and more than 20 drones were downed.

Earlier on June 12, the Associated Press reported that the United States will offer another Patriot missile system in response to Ukraine's pleas for more air defense.

This will be the second Patriot anti-aircraft missile that the United States donates to Ukraine, although the Pentagon has given Kiev an undisclosed number of missiles for this anti-aircraft system from time to time./ Rel
