The Turkish army has increased its shelling of Kurdish forces near the town of Tal Tamr in northeastern Syria, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of residents from their homes. Officials in the area fear that a new military operation by Turkey would trigger another crisis of displaced people.

Over the past few days, the Turkish military has intensified attacks near a Kurdish-controlled town in northeastern Syria, targeting a number of villages near the Syria-Turkey border.

According to local officials, there are currently 16 official and unofficial camps for displaced people in northeastern Syria.
