A new draft law submitted for public consultation by the Ministry of Finance aims to create a new institution for fiscal discipline.

It is about the creation of the Fiscal Council.

Through a post on social networks, Minister Petrit Malaj states that this institution is expected to increase the transparency and long-term sustainability of public finances.

"Determined to guarantee even more transparency and accountability in governance."

"Although Albania is considered a leader in the region for budget transparency, we are taking another important step in line with European Union standards, through the creation of the Fiscal Council. The new draft law, now for public consultation, foresees that this independent institution will contribute to strengthening fiscal discipline, increasing transparency and guaranteeing the long-term sustainability of public finances," Malaj said.

The role of the Fiscal Council, as a new institution, is related to the analysis of budget forecasts, the analysis of macroeconomic forecasts, the evaluation of fiscal policies, as well as the monitoring of the implementation of fiscal rules./CNA
