Trump picks WWE co-founder Linda McMahon for education secretary

Donald Trump has selected World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) co-founder and transition co-chairman Linda McMahon as his nominee for Secretary of Education.

A longtime Trump ally, McMahon led the Small Business Administration during Trump's first presidency and donated millions of dollars to his presidential campaign.

Trump said McMahon would "use her decades of leadership experience and deep understanding of Education and Business to empower the next Generation of American Students and Workers."

Trump has criticized the Department of Education and promised to close it, a job McMahon could be tasked with.

Her nomination came shortly after Trump picked Mehmet Oz, a celebrity doctor and former TV host, to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The two picks Tuesday, along with Trump's choice of Howard Lutnick for commerce secretary, follow a pattern of the president-elect appointing loyal supporters to key cabinet roles./ CNA
