Trump: I will host Erdogan at the White House on September 25

US President Donald Trump announced that he will host Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan at the White House on September 25 and that he expects many agreements to be signed during the meeting.

"We are working on many trade and military deals with the President, including a large-scale purchase of Boeing aircraft, a major F-16 deal, and a continuation of the F-35 talks, which we expect to conclude positively," he wrote on Truth Social.

Erdogan last visited the White House in 2019, during Trump's first term. But the two presidents have a troubled history.

While they had close personal ties during Trump's 2017-2021 term as president, it was also a time of strained bilateral relations due to disagreements over Washington's ties to Kurdish fighters in Syria and Ankara's ties to Moscow.

Turkey angered the Trump administration in 2019 by purchasing the Russian S-400 missile defense system. Washington responded by canceling a planned sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey and excluding the latter from a joint production program for the planes.

Subsequently, Turkey agreed to a deal to purchase F-16 aircraft.
