Trump criticizes Pope Leo

US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Pope Leo XIV on social media after the first American leader of the Roman Catholic Church condemned the US president's threat against Iran.

In a long post on Truth Social, the American president writes that the Pope is terrible at Foreign Policy.

"I don't want a Pope who thinks it's okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon," Trump says.

Listing a number of other complaints about the Pope, Trump writes that Pope Leo is "weak on crime, weak on nuclear weapons."

Last week, Pope Leo criticized Trump's threat that "an entire civilization will die tonight" if Iran does not agree to a deal to end the war.

Describing it as unacceptable, he added: "Of course there are issues of international law, but much more than that, it is a moral issue."/ CNA
