Three naval operations south of Crete, 91 illegal immigrants rescued

Greek authorities carried out three separate search and rescue operations this Easter Sunday south of Crete, after several migrant boats were carrying a total of 91 people.

A FRONTEX ship, aided by drone surveillance, found a boat carrying 35 people about 55 nautical miles southeast of the island.

Earlier, a coast guard vessel and a drone found 22 people aboard another vessel, approximately 45 nautical miles to the southeast.

Greek media report that during a special naval operation, 34 more people were rescued who were located about 44 nautical miles south of the area.

The migrants are expected to be relocated to a temporary reception center in Heraklion.
