Lebanese Prime Minister Postpones Trip to Washington

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has announced that he will postpone a planned trip to the United States and the United Nations, citing the need to remain in Beirut.

"In light of the ongoing internal circumstances, I have decided to postpone my trip to the United Nations and the United States so that I can oversee the work of the government here in Beirut ," Salam announced in a post on "X".

A Lebanese government source said Salam was expected to travel to Washington in the coming days, after Israel signaled an opening for direct negotiations with Lebanon. 

The delay comes at a time when a fragile two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran is in place for the time being but remains under pressure as Israel continues to strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. /CNA
