Supreme Court dismisses appeals against election results, paving the way for

The Supreme Court has rejected the last three appeals by political entities against the results of the February 9 parliamentary elections, paving the way for their certification.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed as unfounded the complaints of the Vetëvendosje Movement, a candidate for MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, and the Democratic Party of Ashkali (PDAK) – LPB, which challenged the decisions of the Electoral Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP).

The Central Election Commission (CEC) could now certify the election results as early as tomorrow, Thursday, according to Eugen Cakolli of the Democratic Institute of Kosovo.

The LVV appealed to the Supreme Court against the decision of the ECAP, which had not accepted its request to cancel the postal votes received by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and to proceed to a postal re-vote.

Meanwhile, the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina has launched investigations regarding the postal voting process, following claims by the LVV that there was manipulation by the LDK.

PDAK – LPB had requested a recount and annulment of hundreds of votes, while the PDK candidate had contested the overall election result.

A week ago, the CEC approved the final results of the February 9 parliamentary elections, in which the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) leads with over 390,000 votes or 42.30 percent.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) came in second with over 190,000 votes, or 20.95 percent, followed by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) with over 170,000 votes, or 18.27 percent.

In fourth place is the coalition between the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Social Democratic Initiative with over 66,000 votes or 7.06 percent.

The Serbian List – the largest Serb party in Kosovo – secured over 39,000 votes or 4.26 percent.

With these percentages, LVV has secured 48 seats in the Kosovo Assembly, PDK, 24, LDK, 20 seats, Serbian Lista nine seats and the AAK-Nisma coalition, eight seats./ REL
