Spain is facing its fourth heat wave

Spain is facing its fourth heat wave this summer, after recording 44 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

The Spanish television RTVE reported on the hot "press", while on the front page of the Spanish daily El Mundo the main headline was: "Neurons are melting like butter".

For the entire territory, or large parts of the regions of Andalusia, Castilla, León, Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha, the state weather service has set the highest level of alert.

In Madrid, where the temperature was recorded at 40 degrees Celsius shortly before 19:00, many streets were empty.

According to meteorologists, the heat wave will begin to weaken on Friday.

The state weather service has warned of an increased risk of forest fires in Spain, due to extreme dryness and strong winds.

At the beginning of July, the world has faced extremely high temperatures.

Some studies have said that such weather would be nearly impossible without human-induced climate change./REL
