A serious incident occurred in a residential area in Balderton, near Newark-on-Trent, at around 7pm on Thursday.

A police officer was hit by the train as he jumped to save a person who was in a state of depression on the train tracks.

Sergeant Graham Saville, 46, is the trooper who was hit by the train.

The 46-year-old suffered serious injuries and died in hospital.

Even the 29-year-old rescued by the officer was sent to the hospital, where his life is out of danger.

The authorities lowered the flag to half-mast as a sign of respect for the sergeant, who became a hero./ CNA
