A state of emergency has been declared in parts of Russia's Voronezh region after a suspected Ukrainian drone attack on an ammunition depot caught fire, regional authorities said.

The regional governor, Aleksandr Gusev, said that the Ukrainian drones were shot down by Russian anti-aircraft fire and that the fire at the ammunition depot was caused by falling shrapnel from the drones.

The ammunition depot is located in Podgornensky district, Voronezh region near the border with Ukraine.

Videos published on Telegram show at least one drone flying towards the depot and then a series of explosions can be heard as black smoke rises into the sky.

Gusev said that there are no reports of casualties. Later on Sunday morning, he said that he has declared a state of emergency in the settlement where the warehouse caught in the fire is located, without identifying it by name.

It was reported that the road to this area has been closed and that authorities have begun evacuating residents to temporary accommodation centers.

Ukraine, whose energy infrastructure has been severely damaged by repeated Russian attacks over the past year, has stepped up attacks on fuel production sites inside Russia, mainly against oil refinery buildings that work for the Russian military.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Sunday morning that Ukrainian anti-aircraft fighters have repelled new Russian drone and missile attacks in several regions.

"The enemy attacked with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 13 Shahed drones," the Air Force wrote on Telegram.

According to her, 13 drones were shot down in Kirovohrad, Kharkiv, Sumy and Poltava regions.

Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry said on Telegram that its Iskander missile destroyed two Patriot anti-aircraft launchers and a Giraffe radar station in the village of Yuzhin in the Odesa region.

The Russian claim could not be independently verified./ REL
