US conducts large-scale strikes against ISIS across Syria

The US has carried out what it called "large-scale strikes" against ISIS in Syria, the US Central Command announced.

The attacks were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which the Pentagon said was ordered by President Donald Trump on December 19 in response to an ISIS ambush near Palmyra on December 13. That attack killed two American soldiers and an American civilian interpreter.

The military in December launched attacks against the Islamic State group's infrastructure and weapons.

Captain Tim Hawkins told NBC News that more than 35 targets were hit in Saturday's operation. More than 90 precision munitions were fired and more than 20 aircraft were involved.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth tweeted about the attacks on the 'X' platform, saying the US will not surrender.

The military said the strikes targeted ISIS as part of an ongoing commitment to eradicate Islamic terrorism against American combatants, prevent future attacks, and protect American and partner forces in the region./CNA
