"They want to suppress freedom of speech"/ Musk accuses British government after threats to ban "X"

Billionaire Elon Musk has accused the UK government of trying to suppress free speech, after ministers threatened fines and a possible ban on the X platform after its artificial intelligence tool, Grok, was used to make sexual images of people without their consent.

The billionaire claimed that Grok was the most downloaded app on the UK App Store on Friday evening, after ministers threatened to take action if the feature to create sexual images was not removed.

"They just want to suppress freedom of speech," Musk said in his response to the threats.

Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said on Friday that ministers were seriously considering the possibility of banning access to "X" in the UK.

The UK government's concerns were echoed by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Speaking in Canberra on Saturday, Albanese said citizens around the world deserve better. Australia recently banned the use of social media by those under 16. /CNA
