Trump is expected to announce the creation of a Gaza Peace Board

US President Donald Trump is expected to announce the creation of a "Peace Board" in Gaza next week, continuing with the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.

According to foreign media, the announcement is expected in the coming days, barring disruptions from other foreign policy priorities, including talks on Ukraine and Venezuela.

The Peace Board will be chaired by Trump and will consist of about 15 world leaders. The board is intended to oversee a technocratic Palestinian government that has yet to be formed and oversee the reconstruction of Gaza under the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.

The move comes despite Israel's insistence that Hamas must first disarm and return the remains of all Israeli prisoners. While Benjamin Netanyahu is opposed to advancing to the second phase without these conditions being met, US officials have made clear that Washington is not prepared to condition the process on either demand.

Hamas, for its part, has publicly rejected unilateral disarmament, stating that it will give up its weapons only as part of a negotiated political process leading to the creation of a Palestinian state. This stance directly contradicts Netanyahu’s long-standing insistence that Hamas must be militarily dismantled before any post-war governing arrangements can be put in place.

Invitations are being sent to key countries to join the board. Those expected to participate include the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt and Turkey./CNA
