Trump orders US withdrawal from 66 international organizations

US President Donald Trump signed a Presidential Memorandum instructing the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations, arguing that they no longer serve American interests, according to a White House document.

The memorandum directs all executive departments and agencies to immediately cease participation in and funding for 35 non-United Nations bodies and 31 UN entities that the administration says act contrary to U.S. national interests, security, economic prosperity, or sovereignty.

The decision follows a comprehensive review ordered earlier this year of all international organizations, conventions and treaties to which the US is a member or provides financial support.

The White House said the withdrawals would end taxpayer funding for institutions that advance globalist agendas over U.S. priorities or address critical issues inefficiently or ineffectively.

The administration argued that many of the organizations promote radical climate policies, global governance, and ideological agendas that conflict with U.S. sovereignty and economic strength, while often criticizing U.S. policies or providing little tangible return despite billions of dollars in American contributions.

Since returning to office, US President Trump has moved quickly to reduce US participation in several multilateral frameworks. In his first days in office, he initiated the US withdrawal from the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement./CNA
