The couple Jacques and Jessica Moretti, owners of the Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, have reacted for the first time after the tragedy with 40 victims.

This is the couple's first public statement, after the Valais public prosecutor's office opened a criminal investigation against them for negligent homicide, negligent bodily harm and negligent arson.

In a statement sent by their lawyers, the couple expressed that they had full confidence in investigators and would cooperate with justice.

"We are devastated and saddened. You can be assured that we will fully cooperate with them in this regard and that we will not attempt to evade our responsibilities in any way ," the couple said.

Jacques Moretti was known to the French judiciary for prostitution. He was allegedly arrested in 2005 in the Savoie department south of Geneva and sentenced to prison in 2008.

According to the French daily Le Dauphiné Libéré, based in Grenoble, he was accused of recruiting young women in France to work in a massage parlor in Geneva. The same source reported that Moretti's sentence was linked to a ban on running a business in France.

According to another source familiar with the case, Moretti was accused of seven other cases, mainly for fraud, but was not convicted. Investigations so far have revealed that fireworks in champagne bottles kept too close to the ceiling are the likely cause of the flames.
