"Whatever you want, Donald, just don't tell the world"/ Trump

United States President Donald Trump has made sarcastic comments to his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, during a statement to Republican lawmakers.

Trump said he asked Macron to raise prescription drug prices, arguing that Americans pay up to 14 times more than the French, a request that he said was initially rejected by the French president.

He then said he had issued an ultimatum, warning that if France did not accept the American demands, tariffs of 25% would be imposed on all French products, including champagne and wine. As he claimed, this threat prompted the French president to back down.

The American president imitated Macron’s voice during his speech, saying that he had replied that he accepted the agreement and was ready to significantly increase the prices of drugs, asking only that the matter not be made public.

"Donald, we have a deal. I'm going to raise prescription drug prices by 200% or whatever. Whatever you want, Donald, just don't tell the world, please," Macron reportedly told Trump.

"All countries are saying the same thing," the US president added.

According to Trump, the tariffs he threatened to impose on France would cost many times more than the increase in drug prices.

So far, neither Macron nor the French government has responded to these statements. Trump also claimed that in similar discussions with other countries, leaders agreed to raise the prices of their medicines within minutes after being threatened with tariffs. /CNA
