The US and the United Kingdom, new attacks against the Houthis in Yemen

The United States and the United Kingdom have launched new airstrikes against Houthi rebel targets in Yemen.

The Pentagon said eight sites were targeted in Monday's attacks, including an underground storage center and launch and observation centers for missile systems.

Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, have targeted commercial ships they believe are linked to Israel and the West as they pass through the Red Sea.

The United States and the United Kingdom have said they are trying to protect the "free movement of goods."

This is the eighth wave of US attacks against Houthi rebel targets in Yemen, and the second in cooperation with the United Kingdom.

Regarding the latest attacks, the statement said that there was also coordination with Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands.

British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps described the strikes as "self-defence" against the Houthi rebels' "intolerable attacks" on commercial shipping.

Despite previous attacks, Houthi rebels - who are supplied, trained and advised by Iran - continue to attack ships.

The rebels say they launched the attacks in response to Israel's military offensive in Gaza.

Israel declared war on Hamas on October 7, 2023, shortly after the group carried out deadly attacks on its soil, leaving around 1,200 people dead.

Hamas, the Palestinian group that rules Gaza, has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.

As a result of Israel's military offensive in Gaza, over 25,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to Palestinian health authorities./ REL
