Finland has one of the ten most difficult education systems in the world and, at the same time, one of the most rigorous systems in the European Union, a new study reveals.

According to MastersDegree.net, the ranking of Finland among the ten most difficult education systems in the world was made after taking into account several factors, including the structure of the country's education system, tertiary education achievements and the acceptance rate at the best college.

As the study reveals, the education system in Finland follows a 9-3-3 structure. This includes a compulsory nine-year primary school education, followed by a three-year period of upper secondary education and a three-year stage of higher education, reports  SchengenVisaInfo.com.

The most difficult exam in Finland is the Finnish matriculation exam, which is a nationwide test given after finishing high school.

Students who pass this exam are allowed to continue their studies at universities and other higher education institutions. Data shows that about 30,000 students pass the exam successfully every year.

Alongside Finland's demanding education system, students struggle with high levels of stress. According to the study, students pursuing their studies in Finland have more mental health problems than other adults in the country.

About 40 percent of female students and 28 percent of male students in Finland have said they feel depressed or anxious./ CNA
