King Charles III is expected to be hospitalized next week to treat a complication with an enlarged prostate.
Buckingham Palace has said that the King's condition is good, but he will undergo a "corrective procedure".
The 75-year-old's public events will be postponed for a short period of recovery, the Palace said.
The announcement comes shortly after it is understood the Princess of Wales is in hospital after undergoing abdominal surgery.
"It is common for thousands of men every year, the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate," the statement said.
An enlarged benign prostate – which is non-cancerous – is common in men over 50 and is usually not a serious health condition, according to British health authorities.
About one in three men over the age of 50 may have symptoms of an enlarged prostate, which is caused by a gland below the bladder.
This state of health does not mean that the patient has a high risk of having prostate cancer./ REL
