The Houthi group does not attack Chinese and Russian ships in the Red Sea

A senior official of the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist group said Chinese and Russian cargo ships would be safe while passing through the Red Sea.

Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the political leadership of the Houthi group, said in an interview to the Russian portal "Izvestia" that sea routes for ships from China and Russia are safe if they are not connected to Israel.

Leaders of the Houthi group have expressed their solidarity with the Palestinians, who are suffering from Israel's war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip and have carried out more than 30 attacks in the Red Sea.

However, members of the Houthi group have attacked commercial ships unrelated to Israel, forcing international shipping companies to avoid sea routes in the Red Sea.

Major shipping companies have responded to attacks in the Red Sea by diverting their cargo ships to other, longer and higher-cost sea routes around Africa. The Red Sea Seaway is vital for the passage of cargo ships between Europe and Asia, accounting for 15 percent of the world's maritime traffic.

Rebels from the Houthi group fired two ballistic missiles at a US ship in the Gulf of Aden, the US military's central headquarters said in a statement released on Thursday.

The statement said that crew members saw the missile falling into the waters near the ship. There were no reports of injuries or damage to the tanker of the American company "M/V Chem Ranger", which was operated by a Greek company and sailed under the flag of the Marshall Islands.

Houthi rebels claimed in a statement on social media that they had hit the ship.

On Thursday, US forces carried out further attacks on targets in territory controlled by the Houthi group in Yemen, which is supported by Iran, as concerns of the spread of the Israel-Hamas conflict to other areas of the Middle East have grown./ VOA
