The United States has donated to Ukraine about 1.1 million bullets seized from Iran last year.

US Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East, said the bullets were seized from a ship bound for Yemen in December.

Ukraine's Western allies have recently warned that their production facilities are at war with Ukraine's rate of ammunition use.

The US Central Command said that the Iranian bullets were transferred to Ukraine on Monday.

The ammunition became the property of the US Government under a law that provides that an asset can be confiscated if its owner is believed to be involved in criminal activity.

In this case, the claim was made against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the branch of Iran's armed forces that protects the country's government.

Through a statement, US authorities have said that the US is "committed to working with our allies and partners to combat the distribution of lethal Iranian aid to the region".

Iran supports the Houthi rebels in Yemen's civil war, but arms transfers to the group are banned by a resolution passed by the United Nations Security Council in 2015.

Yemen's civil war began in 2014 when Houthi rebels took control of the capital Sanaa and overthrew the country's government.

The ousted government is internationally recognized as Yemen's authority and is supported by the Saudi-led coalition in the region, as well as the US and Great Britain./ Rel
