US Senate approves Trump's "One Beautiful Bill" tax

Senate Republicans narrowly passed US President Donald Trump's tax relief and spending cuts bill on Tuesday, overcoming opposition from Democrats and their ranks after a tumultuous overnight session.

The unexpected result marked the culmination of an extremely tense work weekend at the Capitol, where the president's top legislative priority was on the verge of approval or defeat.

In the end, the score was 50-50, with Vice President JD Vance casting the deciding vote.

Three Republican senators, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine and Rand Paul of Kentucky, joined all Democrats in voting against him.

The package now returns to the House of Representatives, where Speaker Mike Johnson had warned senators not to revisit what his chamber had already approved./CNA
