Hundreds killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon, deadliest day since 2006

At least 492 people have lost their lives as a result of Israel's intense airstrikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Lebanon's Ministry of Health has called it the deadliest day of the conflict in almost 20 years.

Thousands of families have also fled their homes after the Israeli military said it struck 1,300 Hezbollah targets in an operation to destroy infrastructure the armed group had built up since the 2006 war.

Hezbollah, meanwhile, fired more than 200 rockets into northern Israel, according to military statements. Doctors said two people were injured by the shell.

World powers have urged restraint as both sides appear to be edging closer to an all-out war.

Lebanon's health ministry said 35 children and 58 women were among the dead, while 1,645 others were injured.

However, it is not reported on the exact number of how many of the victims were civilians and how many were military. /CNA
