President Osmani: I have mandated Glauk Konjufca to form the Kosovo government

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani announced in a statement to the media that she has mandated Glauk Konjufca as a candidate for the formation of the new government. She stated that Konjufca's mandate is in line with what the Constitution of Kosovo states.

"I have mandated the candidate for prime minister from the first party as required by the Constitution. The Constitution does not say I can appoint, but it says I appoint the next candidate in case the first one fails. The language used in the Constitution is mandatory, so it obliges the president of the country to appoint the second candidate. In accordance with the Constitution, I have mandated Mr. Glauk Konjufca as the next candidate for prime minister," said Osmani.

The President announced that today she also held meetings with the leaders of other major parties, who have expressed their unwillingness to propose a candidate.

Earlier today, the Vetëvendosje Movement proposed Glauk Konjufca as the candidate for prime minister of Kosovo. According to the Constitution, the person nominated by Osmani has 15 days to submit to the Assembly the new composition of the government, which must receive the support of at least 61 deputies to be elected. /CNA
