The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina suspended the investigation against former President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, former Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Radovan Viškovi?, and Speaker of the Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandi?, who were suspected of the criminal offense of attacking the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty confirmed on November 4.
The reason for suspending the investigation, as told to REL, is that "there is insufficient evidence that the suspects have committed a criminal offense."
The decision to suspend the investigation means that no indictments will be filed.
It comes days after Dodik and his political and business partners were removed from the US Treasury Department's blacklist.
The case arose at the beginning of the year, after the Assembly of Republika Srpska adopted several laws that prohibited the functioning of state judicial and police institutions in the territory of this entity, which the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared unconstitutional.
The Prosecutor's Office said at the time that there is reason to suspect that the three highest-ranking officials of the Bosnian Serb entity organized an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order of the state.
The investigation was in the public spotlight for months.
The incident culminated in March of this year, when the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, due to their failure to respond to summonses for questioning, ordered their detention and issued an arrest warrant.
It was valid since March 17th and all police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina had orders to detain them.
Dodik voluntarily went to the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 4, accompanied by his defense attorney.
He was questioned as a suspect in the investigation.
At that session, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina decided to lift the detention, on the condition that he periodically report to the competent police authorities.
The Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina provides for a prison sentence of up to five years and a ban on holding public office for the criminal offense of attacking the constitutional order.
Dodik, meanwhile, was officially stripped of his mandate as president of Republika Srpska, after being sentenced to one year in prison and a six-year ban on holding public political office.
Radovan Viskovic resigned as Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, while Nenad Stevandic continues to serve as Speaker of the entity's Assembly. /REL
