Colombian President: US Bombed a Cocaine Factory in Venezuela

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has said that the US has bombed a cocaine production factory in the port city of Maracaibo, in western Venezuela.

"We know that Trump bombed a cocaine factory in Maracaibo ," Petro said via X.

US President Donald Trump has spoken in recent days about the first American ground attack on Venezuela, but without specifying where exactly it took place.

In a long text, social democratic president Petro assessed that it was a structure of the National Liberation Army (ELN), a Colombian guerrilla organization that partially controls the cocaine production department in Catatubo, which borders Venezuela and is located near Maracaibo.

Trump told reporters that the American attack took place on a beach, in an area where there was a pier where ships loaded with drugs used to sail.

The Venezuelan government has made no official comment. The United States has been exerting great pressure on Caracas for months, accusing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of being the head of a vast drug trafficking ring. Maduro denies the accusation.

Since the beginning of September, the US armed forces have launched about thirty airstrikes against ships that Washington says were transporting drugs, killing at least 107 people in the Caribbean and Pacific. /CNA
