Turkey arrests 357 suspected IS members

Turkish security forces have arrested 357 people during nationwide operations against the extremist group Islamic State (IS), Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced.

"During the operations carried out this morning by our police forces in 21 provinces, we have arrested 357 people suspected of being linked to IS ," Yerlikaya said in X.

"We have never given a chance to those who try to bring the state to its knees through terrorism . "

On December 29, three police officers were killed during an operation against the group in Yalova, in northwestern Turkey. The clash, which lasted several hours, also left six suspected IS members, all Turkish citizens, dead.

Last week, the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office ordered the arrest of 137 people on suspicion of being members of IS, after saying intelligence information showed that the terrorist organization, Islamic State, was planning attacks during Christmas and New Year. Turkey shares a 900-kilometer border with Syria, where the group remains active. /REL
