Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israeli attacks on Iran are aimed at ending its nuclear projects forever.

In his first press conference since the start of the Middle East war, the Israeli prime minister said Iran was no longer the same after almost two weeks of sustained attacks by Israeli and American forces.

Israel aims to stop Iran from moving its nuclear and ballistic projects underground, Netanyahu says, while several Israeli strikes have killed prominent Iranian nuclear scientists.

He reiterates calls for the Iranian people to take to the streets, while Israel aims to create the conditions for regime change in the country.

"I say to the Iranian people: The moment when you can embark on a new path of freedom is approaching. That moment is approaching. We stand by you. We help you. But ultimately, it's up to you. It's in your hands," the Israeli prime minister said. 

Netanyahu also says Hezbollah will pay a high price for its continued aggression against Israel. He said Israel conveyed the message to the Lebanese government that they are playing with fire.

"If they continue to allow Hezbollah to operate without disarming it, it means they are taking their fate into their own hands. And if they do not act, we will act. How this will be done in practice, whether by territorial means or other methods, is something I will not go into detail about. But I promise you that Hezbollah will pay a high price," Netanyahu said. He added that he has spoken to US President Donald Trump almost every day since the start of the conflict. /CNA
