Military base in Iran housing British and American troops attacked with Iranian drones

British troops at a base in Iraq have been attacked by Iranian drones. There were reportedly no casualties in the attack, but several American troops were injured.

The western base in Erbil, in northern Iraq, is controlled by the US, but often houses other coalition forces, including British troops.

A British presence has been deployed to the region in recent weeks to shoot down Iranian drones. Two Iranian drones heading towards the base were reportedly shot down by surface-to-air missiles on Wednesday night.

An unknown number of shells hit the base, resulting in injuries to US troops, but they are not thought to be serious. Earlier, Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed that British forces had foiled an attack on the US base. /CNA
