FBI: California could be attacked by drones from Iran in retaliation

The FBI warned police departments in California that Iran could retaliate for the US attacks by launching drones on the West Coast, US media reported.

"We have recently received information that as of early February 2026, Iran is suspected of aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel near the coast of the United States, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event that the United States were to conduct attacks against Iran. We have no additional information on the timing, method, target, or perpetrators of this suspected attack," the FBI report stated.

The warning comes as the Trump administration launches its ongoing offensive against the Islamic Republic. Iran has retaliated with drone strikes against targets across the Middle East.

Information about Iran's aspirations for a surprise drone attack on the West Bank came before the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran, and a senior law enforcement official said the 12-day bombing campaign is believed to have severely degraded Iran's capabilities to carry out such an attack. /CNA
