FBI warns of attacks/Strict security measures ahead of Oscars ceremony

Authorities in Los Angeles have imposed very tight security measures ahead of the Oscars ceremony, following a warning from the FBI about a possible drone attack that could be linked to Iran.

This year's ceremony is the 98th edition of the Oscar Awards and will take place at the Dolby Theatre, where many Hollywood stars are expected to attend.

Security services in California have been put on high alert.

However, authorities have stressed that there is no concrete or confirmed threat, but the measures were taken for preventive reasons due to international tensions.

Security for the ceremony will include around 1,000 private security guards, police patrols and special units, bomb-sniffing dogs and surveillance drones, as well as a security perimeter of about 1 mile around the ceremony site.

The producers of the ceremony have stated that the safety of guests and the public is an absolute priority and that the event must proceed normally and safely./CNA
