A serious rail accident occurred in the early hours of this morning in the Czech Republic, where two passenger trains collided.
At least five people were seriously injured and 40 others suffered minor injuries, local officials and media reported. Fire and rescue services said the collision occurred about 132 kilometers south of Prague at around 6:20 a.m.
Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka announced that investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the accident, adding that preliminary reports suggest that a train may have passed a signal at the stop position.
Martin Kavka, a spokesman for the railway operator Sprava zeleznic, said that all passengers had been evacuated from the trains.
The incident comes just days after two trains collided in Slovakia, injuring about 100 people. About 800 people were on board the two vehicles when they collided about 19 kilometers north of the capital, Bratislava. /CNA
