Flooding in the Gaza Strip/ Storm damage to thousands of families living in

Tuesday's torrential rain caused flooding in the Gaza Strip.

The vast majority of Gaza's two million residents were forced from their homes during Israel's two-year ground and air war on the small, crowded enclave triggered by Hamas's October 2023 offensive, with many now living in tents and other shelters.

"This suffering, this rain and the low-pressure weather systems haven't even started yet. It's only the beginning of winter, and we are already flooded and humiliated. We haven't received new tents or raincoats," said one resident.

Amjad al-Shawa, head of the Palestinian NGO Network, said there was an urgent need for at least 300,000 new tents to house the approximately 1.5 million people still displaced from their homes.

The Palestinian Civil Defense Service said thousands of tents housing displaced families had been flooded by rainwater or damaged by torrential storms over the past week./CNA
